Troubleshooting

Sign-in opens the browser but nothing comes back

The system needs to know that interview-companion:// URLs belong to the app. On macOS this is registered automatically by the .app bundle. On Windows it requires the MSI installer to have completed — if you ran the app from a stand-alone executable, install the MSI instead.

"Screen Recording not granted" on macOS

Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and enable Interview Companion. Then return to the app and click Retry. You don't need to restart the app.

"Mic only" on Linux

System-audio capture isn't supported on Linux. The candidate's voice will not be transcribed unless they're physically in the room with you. This is a known limitation.

Transcripts arrive but no AI insights

This usually means a temporary issue with the AI Gateway. The desktop app silently falls through Anthropic → OpenAI → Moonshot → direct Cerebras; if all four time out, you'll see a 504 in the dashboard for that chunk. Recording itself is unaffected.

Auto-updater doesn't see a new version

The updater polls https://github.com/Montinou/interview-companion/releases/latest/download/latest.json at startup. If you skipped a few versions, restart the app — it'll pick up the latest on the next launch.
